c Oct 1961: St Stephen’s Parliamentary Press

Philip Marriage writes: We can’t be sure of the date of this photo of the front entrance to the Press, but the chauffeur might indicate an official visit, maybe the opening on 23 October 1961. Dave Martin adds: I don’t remember seeing any particular car, or even that cars were in abundance on that day, as would be the case now. Taxis probably figured prominently, public transport plus Shank’s Pony too for some, who doubtless wandered shell-shocked around SE1 streets, overcome by the fumes from Sainsbury’s nearby bacon curing plant!
More intriguing than the cars is the motor scooter (Lambretta? Possibly not) parked on the pavement. We might speculate on that machine user, maybe a Mod?
